Still childless...

This is our 2nd full day without Maya, and it is not SO bad. Of course, I'm probably driving my mother crazy with frequent phone calls for play by play recreations of what my little munchin has been doing. I should be accomplishing so much while she is gone, but I find myself wanting to be very, very LAZY!!! I did manage to take all three of our kitties to the vet this morning, making three trips back and forth to home because of a lack of kitty carriers. So, I guess I was entitled to a little R and R. Tomorrow we are off to Columbia to spend the night with my parents and then Friday we will all head down to Edisto for the weekend. It should be interesting taking Maya to the beach again - she hasn't been since she was about 8 months old. Last time she wasn't walking yet, and she wasn't terribly fond of the ocean yet either. This time will entail a lot more exercise for Casey and I, as we will spend most of our time chasing her up and down the beach I'm sure. Thank goodness she is here and able to do that. I know there are so many parents who wish they could wear themselves out chasing their little ones.

I'm changing jobs this year (hopefully) and will be working at a school only a mile from my home, so hopefully we will save a lot of money in gas! I will be going back full time though, and I hope I'll be able to cope after working only until 12pm for a whole year. Casey has football from August until about the beginning of November, and we miss him terribly during those months because he works all day and coaches until about 7:30pm. It stinks, but he loves it!

I'll be out of commission for the next week, but I will fill everyone in on our great beach adventures when we return. Until then...

Attachment Disorder

I decided to start this blog so that I would be able to remember all these wonderful things Maya is doing one day when I am old and forgetful (which is pretty much now!). I also wanted my family to be able to get a glimpse of what Casey and I are able to see daily, which is our beautiful baby quickly growing into a stubborn, smart little girl. Maya is 20 months old today, and I simply cannot believe it. Everyone says that time really starts to fly once you have children, and I must agree. The past 2o months have been amazing, tiring, frustrating, hilarious, and a wonderful learning experience. I thank God everyday for his most amazing blessing for Casey and I, which is definitely Maya Caroline Argo. She's pretty lucky too - she is adored not only by her parents, but by two sets of grandparents, 3 uncles, 4 aunts, 2 cousins, three great-grandparents, and a whole host of family friends.

This week I am branching out again...it is the second time I have turned her loose from my sight for more than a few hours. She went home with my sister Jessica yesterday to spend the night with she and Wes, and now Mom and Dad have her until Thursday. Will I make it?? Oh the worrying!!! From all reports she is perfectly fine, having a ball, not missing me a bit! : ) I'm trying to enjoy my freedom for a few days, but she is always in my mind. How quiet a house becomes when she isn't here. Casey and I went to movies last night and we are going again tonight, enjoying our time together. We saw Indiana Jones last night, and tonight we will see The Hulk with some of our good friends, Chris and Julie Parris.

Some of the things I miss about Maya:

Her new hair cut - she got her "big girl" haircut yesterday. I'll have to post a picture. It is all one length now - she lost her baby mullet. Auntie J was so happy the mullet was gone. I saved the hair and remembered how little she had when she was born. She was terrible for this haircut. I tipped Mrs. Shara extra for having to put up with my screaming, writhing child! This is the first time in all her hair cuts (she's probably had about 5) that she ever cried.

Her "night, night" game: About 2 weeks ago she invented a new game where she goes around and tells everyone in the room "nigh nigh _____" and you have to pretend you are sleeping. When everyone is "snoring" she screams to wake you up, and you have to pretend you are very surprised. She could play this game for hours.

Her new favorite word: Mommy. I cannot tell you how long I waited to hear this precious word, and now it seems it is all I hear. Her new phase is to wake up in the middle of the night and say Mommy...uhhhh...Mommy...uhhh...Mommy...uhhh on and on until I go in a get her.

Her interest in saying the prayer: We pray before we eat, and she folds her little hands together and laughs histerically while we say it. Then she claps and says "yea" when we're done. Last Sunday at the conclusion of a public prayer, she thought it was so good she clapped and shouted "Yeah!" She didn't understand why I told her to shush.

Her love of the word goodbye: When I take her out of church to the nursery, she is always sure to turn to the congregation and wave and say, "bye!"

I miss her terribly, but I know it is good for her and for me to spend time with her other family members!

Love you Maya!
